This is another of the many beautiful Temples that can be found in Taiwan. This one is situated at the end of a small alley in San Chong, New Taipei City. I found it one day as I was on my lunch break from teaching English and decided to get lost in the small alleys to see what I could find (this rarely disappoints and I have found many gems including great drawing spots and new spots to skateboard). This temple is really hidden and I only found it by seeing a strange looking small one-lane tunnel like road and going down it. As I emerged I realized I was actually under part of the temple and an apartment building that had been built almost touching it, crazy! As you can see from the drawing, to the right of the temple is a small dark road that actually connects to a large road behind. I assume the Temple was there first and everything else was built around it. This location and almost hidden temple really interested me and I set my easel up in the street to draw it using Oil Pastels during my break times, returning over a few sessions. It was an interesting challenge and I met a lot of interesting people from the area and Temple who told me that it is also in a film. After finishing the Oil Pastel drawing, I wanted to return to draw and paint a mixed-media version of this interesting site. In 2019 I was substitute teaching in the area again and set up my easel to draw the Temple in Ink. As I was drawing the owner of the small home/factory that was opposite came out to me and gave me a chair to sit on! She had seen me before and wanted to make me more comfortable, very generous and appreciated! After drawing out the scene “en plein air” in Ink the Acrylic paint was added at a later date in my studio.
A note to International Buyers:
Shipping rates have increased in price all around the world due to Covid and other complications. Due to this I have had to increase the the cost of shipping my artworks in line with the Delivery Companies. I will always strive to find the cheapest possible option for the customer (usually my local POST OFFICE EMS Recorded Delivery, but unfortunately they don’t deliver worldwide at the moment) If the amount of shipping charged at purchase is less than the shipping company charges then I will refund the difference to the customer. This refund will be done after the picture has arrived safely and has been accepted.
Any import duties, taxes and charges that may be payable are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges, if applicable, will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please message me to check if this might affect your purchase.
