"Hey little bird, fly away home...Your house is on fire, your children are alone" from the somber song Jockey Full of Bourbon by the ever inspirational Tom Waits, is the pure inspiration for this little gem. The imagery that Waits puts forth in the song is even beyond a dreamlike hallucination, but a journey into anxiety and regrets.
This was pure stream-of-conscious painting with the idea of flying away from or to something looming over my head. We can always escape something, but are we escaping to something better, or just another situation to escape from.
I like to think this piece if more optimistic and the key is present for a reason...to move forward from the dark.
Acrylic, spray paint, ink
