2021, "Hephaestus" - stone sculpture

This original melted red tuff sculpture is one of the latest artworks by the Bulgarian contemporary sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by naturalism, brutalism and expressionism. It has authentic natural charm, mixed with the unique artistic signature and skills. Tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. It hasn't reached the temperatures at which it melts. The artist's concept has provoked this process by melting the volcanic ash rock and turning it into the actual lava state, so that the unfinished process of nature can be completed. The artist's concept follows this brutal material characteristics. This exquisite art object brings its beautiful artist's attention to high fashion detail, precision and top quality.

In ancient Greek mythology, Hephaestus is the god of blacksmiths, metalworking, carpenters, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes. Hephaestus's Roman counterpart is Vulcan. Hephaestus was either the son of Zeus and Hera or he was Hera's parthenogenous child. He was cast off Mount Olympus by his mother because of his deformity or, in another account, by Zeus for protecting Hera from his advances.
