‘Helios’ is an oil painting on linen which takes its inspiration from the landscape of the Costa de la Luz in Spain. Helios, is a Greek God and the personification of the Sun, and in this painting he is illuminating the landscape in an explosion of colour. This rich and evocative oil painting is a beautiful interpretation of land, sea and sky in terms of light, colour and mood.

I live and work in Cadiz Province on the Costa de la Luz in south-west Spain. With its sparkling light, the Costa de la Luz - the coast of light - has long been a magnet for artists, and like many artists before me, I was drawn to it. It is in the landscape that I make drawings before going into the studio to make pieces of work which are a distillation of ideas rather than directly representational pieces.
