Artwork description:

The etching ‘Solitary Land’ is inspired by the beaches of the English south coast. The rhythm of low and high tides constantly change the beaches. To me these places are calm, relaxing and peaceful. But they also carry stories, history and drama.
Two abandoned boats suggest some event took place here, there is a story to be told, perhaps a secret hidden... .
The landscape has a strong influence on my work, but at the same time my etchings do not always represent the landscape as it appears.
Instead they are more of a personal response to aspects to the landscape that inspired me.
With my etchings, I aim to to create prints that can transport a narrative in a subtle way, to ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ a story.
I hope the viewer can find their own personal narrative in my images.
‘Solitary Land’ is printed by me from one steel plate in small editions in different colours on acid free printmaking paper. The image size is 60x40cm with a paper margin of 7cm all around.
