TITLE : Heaven's Tears

Soft raindrops over the Lighthouse on the tiny island of Rona. A lullaby so quiet you have to strain to hear it. From a sky filled with rose coloured clouds, rain flows down washing the world clean and fresh for a new day.

A small lighthouse at the end of a small island in the far north of Scotland. Rona (also known as Acairseid Mhr in Gaelic) is a tiny island between the Isle of Skye and the mainland. The lighthouse was built in 1847 and continues to hold a beacon for sailors in the wild waves of the Sound of Raasay and North Sea.

In 1840 (before the lighthouse was built) the tiny cottage by the slipway was occupied by the Mackenzie family, the only residents of Acairseid Mhr at the time. That summer Kenneth Mackenzie was lost at sea but his widow Janet would not believe it, so she kept a light burning in the cottage window to guide his boat back into harbour. This was of such great assistance to other vessels that after some years the navy gave her a £20 award and the Commissioners of Northern Lights also gave her a small sum to purchase lamp-oil. She kept the light burning for 12 years but her husband never returned.

About My Work
I am passionate about creating images of the landscape around Skye. The land, the people and the history are woven together to create a place of endless mystery.

I love working with luxury paper and canvas materials that hold their colours for a lifetime. For these special large prints of my work I use dreamy, light textured Canson Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.

About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI, their paper was used by Voltaire and Napoleon and the Montgolfier brothers used Canson paper to make the first hot air balloon. Canson paper was used by Picasso, Ingres, Chagal, Miro and many other artists. They have been making paper and canvas for photography since this art began over 150 years ago. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.

Other Sizes
This print is available in other sizes on canvas or paper. I am happy to take custom orders, just drop me a line.

A Note on Canvases
Canvases are unframed and unmounted, they need to be stretched or framed once you get them. They are matte varnished and come with 1.5 inch (4cm) gallery wrap or with white or dark coloured sides, just let me know which you prefer. Once ready, they are carefully wrapped in acid free tissue then shipped in a sturdy art tube to ensure safe delivery. All taxes and duties to be paid by the receiver.
