The images is taken from a woodland setting in Perthshire, Scotland of Hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna, berries from the tree in autumn. This tree is also called the May tree, due to the timing of its blossom in the UK. Hawthorn is a favourite of mine as it provides habitat, food and shelter to many species throughout the year. I love it's resilience to the harsh Scottish winters, and in particular the stunning colours it produces in its leaves and berries in autumn.
Canvas stretched over a wooden strainer, water-based primer, oil paints and a museum-grade varnish.
