In this piece, I aimed to capture the first rays of sunshine through a summer rain shower. As the light floods across the fields and mountains of Conwy, North Wales, it ignites the golden tones of the marram grasses in the foreground.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies, land and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over North Wales,
The metallic golds are developed by layering and lifting the paint, to find previous hues and tones laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
