I just LOVED painting this picture, and became completely absorbed in the details throughout. I did not hold back on the colours and the result is a really happy, vibrant original piece of work which pings out at you from the box canvas. A coat of varnish not only protects the work, but also allows the colours to really sing.
The edges of the box canvas are painted white and the picture can be hung as it is, or you could add a wire to the back - or indeed have it framed if you prefer.
Flowers really do bring joy, whether they are growing wild in a field, cultivated as part of a formal garden or placed in a vase (or even a jam jar!) They are possibly my favourite subject to paint, and I have left behind photographic representations and travelled in the more free direction of abstraction - recognisable images but the essence of the thing, rather than the thing itself.
