Original artwork description:

This is a cooker (or sink) splash-back that I have made out of MDF. It measures 80cm wide and 50cm high so sits well behind a standard 90cm range cooker with a standard gap between cooker and extractor fan – see the photo of it mounted in my own kitchen.

I used MDF which I then sprayed with black spray paint. I then created the chickens, the wooden box, the grass, leaves and flowers out of torn magazine paper which has been painstakingly glued on one by one. Everything has then been painted over colour by colour so that there are no white torn edges left. The whole piece has then been heavily varnished in a satin wood varnish. It has had 4 layers of varnish in total which gives it an almost glazed effect which also enables the splash-back to be washed down without any problems. The varnish is also UV protective.

There are 2 small holes drilled in the back of the splash-back so it can be mounted on 2 screws/nails and then just a couple of little blobs of silicon at the bottom to really secure the splash-back onto the wall.

This piece can of course also be hung anywhere just as a picture and it could also be framed if that was preferred.

The splash-back is signed on the front.

Materials used:

MDF, torn paper, glue, acrylic paint, varnish
