A handmade limited edition of 10 linocut prints dedicated to the magical halo that occasionally appears around the moon.
This print is a multi block linocut created using a combination of lino carving and caustic etching. There are four blocks but five layers of colour, one block is used twice, printing one on top of another to create the moon and it’s halo. The landscape below was then added by going back and removing most of the first block and printing both colours in one pass.
The first time I saw a halo around a full moon I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I had never heard of it happening and couldn’t quite believe my eyes that this perfect circle or halo forms around the moon. Now we have Google and it’s easy to find answers when you see things you don’t understand but we didn’t have Google back when I first saw a moon halo, it was just magical as far as I was concerned. You can still find me outside staring up at the sky when the moon is full and if there’s a halo I’m bound to be there for some time!
The inks used are Caligo Safe Wash which are oil based inks with high lightfast properties.
The paper is Somerset Satin 250gsm printmaking paper.
Handmade Prints
These prints are all handmade and as such there can be slight variations in the prints in an edition, though these are very slight. It means that each print in an edition is unique and is an original in it’s own right. Please also bear in mind that although I take every care to photograph the prints as faithfully as possible there can also be variations in colour between what you view on a screen and the original print.
