Original artwork description:

Combining my love of retro objects and colourful food is this new painting of a vintage gumball machine. I saw a photo of a similar machine in a magazine and it brought back a lot of nostalgic memories from my childhood. I loved these kind of vending machines when I was a kid. Some gave you toys, others gave you sweets.

For this painting I decided to depict a machine that vends giant chewing gum balls, or gobstoppers as they're sometimes called. You insert a coin an turn the dial shown in the silver part of the machine.

Unlike my usual work the item is set against a more realistic and textured brick wall background rather than a flat abstract colour, an effect I feel gives the main image of the bold, graphic gum machine much more impact.

The end result is a charming, bright and colourful painting that would brighten up any room in your home, or would make an ideal gift for someone special.

It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pens on a stretched cotton canvas. It's signed and dated on the back frame, as depicted. The design goes around the edge so the painting is ready to hang.
Size -
11.8 inches x 15.7 inches
30 cm x 40 cm

I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield, and by modern day graphic designers and food packaging.
