Artwork description:
"Grianstad an Gheimhridh, Bru na Boinne" is a screenprint with watercolour chine colle, in a variable edition of 12 prints. The title is in the Gaelic language, and it translates to "Winter Sun Stop, in the Boyne Valley" - referring of course to the Winter Solstice at Newgrange. The image depicts the rising sun on the day of the Winter Solstice, as viewed from above and behind the Newgrange and Knowth monuments. In my research for the print, I had to figure out where the monuments are located in relation to each other, with the rising winter sun. The forward left monument is Newgrange, with Knowth to the rear and right. I worked this out by studying various maps of the region. As there are no other structures visible in the image, the print is somewhat timeless - at least within the last 5,000 years!
