Original artwork description:

The woman that formed the basis of this work was observed at a vintage festival at Gloucester UK. Other aspects have been culled from my older references. The combining of desperate resources and the modelling patience of my wife for additional hands etc. is what I need to create the image I desire.

The painting is on a superior rolled canvas board. The work consists of a Rowney Cryla acrylic base coat of burnt orange over the gesso manufacturers finish. Opaque pigments have been used to lay down some areas, also acting as undercoating for sections of the subject matter. Subsequent layers of acrylic paint have been applied laced with Liquidex airbrush medium and deionised water to achieve a wash layer. This thin multiple layering of pigment allows for a degree of luminosity to the finished painting, avoiding the usual flat acrylic finish.

Finished with a coat of Winsor & Newton Satin UV varnish, this not only protects the painting, but has a unifying effect. A suggested frame width of at least 60mm or more for this size painting. Narrow frames on large paintings have tendency to not sit well and have a habit of warping.

Materials used:

Acrylic on superior rolled edged canvas board
