This a pastel painting of Greenwich Village, New York. I stumbled across this view when I was having an exhibition in the near vicinity at one of the galleries. The taxis were in line glinting bright yellow in the sun. The buildings were going up high in the sky and in the distance skyscrapers were touching the sky. (or so it seemed). I fell in love with New York and in particular Manhattan. I was from England and the contrast was so great it left a lasting impression on me. So much so I took photos and little sketches and couldn't wait to start on my love affair with New York (When I got home to my studio in London). This is the second painting of this particular scene. I have used pastel - the first painting was in oils. I like to get different effects with different mediums. This pastel is framed in a sympathetic silver and is ready to hang.
