The Boise River runs through Eagle, Idaho, turning the riverbanks green and lush. This forested grove along the Boise Greenbelt is a favorite of mine for exploring, watching ducks dive and splash in the clear, cool waters; spying a mink scampering across a fallen log.
The impasto painting textures are applied with a palette knife, using rich, vibrant walnut oil paints.
This painting was done on location, en plein air. I wanted to capture the effects of dappled sunlight filtering its way through leaves onto grassy knolls or pebbly trails leading to the river's edge, or to the edge of nowhere, forged by another fellow explorer and lover of rivers, just like me.
