This acrylic of a green back heron is based on a photograph that I took a couple of years ago at a local reservoir. These little herons are really quite colorful when you really look at them. I have read that their feathers can be different colors depending on their diet and environment. This bird had a rather dark plumage tinged with the iridescent green.
