This painting is called Scrubland Colourscape. The view is through the dunes scrubland just inside the beach with bunny's tails, pine and grasses. The effect was enhanced by the grey sky. This was a challenging painting to paint plein-air as the landscape was incredibly complex. It is important to simplify what you see and using Gouache assists this process. I think I managed to capture it quite well. I must admit I tend to enjoy portraying colours quite vividly when I paint. This definitely is an impressionistic painting. I really like painting plein-air as I find painting from photographs takes away the freshness of the finished painting and you lose the variety of colours too as the camera gives you what the camera sees not what you see. You see this painting uncropped, you can of course crop it for framing.
