My paintings draw on the familiar landscapes of Tasmania, reflecting its shapes and colours and history. I live in my grandfather's house and I have found in distant valleys the over-grown ruins of fallen farmsteads built by my great-grandfather, or his grandfather. From family photographs dating back to the 1870s I know the stories of the land as told by the English invaders. My cousin owns the hills and valleys in the foreground of this painting. I added a portrait of our great-grandfather.
