Original artwork description:

Gorse, marshy pool, Studland
Beautiful blues,
Abundance and natural perfume of wild yellow bush flowers,
Soothing and calming,
Colours reflecting,
Special grasses and reeds.

Words and thoughts of being here at Studland nature reserve on the Dorset coast.
Original impressionist watercolour on extra rough textured watercolour paper cold pressed bockingford 300gsm 140lb.
I used wet on wet sporadic washes starting with a cadmium yellow wash and then mixed a small amount of vermillion into the phthalo blue for the sky colour. Leaving areas of white where I didn’t wet the paper. I then pressed and crested markings for the gorse bushes using my Japanese mop squirrel hair brush and a filbert brush. Reflecting the colours into the marshy pool. I dragged up the paint with a fan brush and Chinese brushes for the reeds, grasses plus scrapping out the paint with my nail.
This scene was inspired by my trip with my mum and sis on Mother’s Day. It was such a special day that we shared together.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 300gsm 140lb, Windsor and newton watercolours, Japanese mop squirrel hair brush, Chinese brushes, sable hair brush, filbert brush,
