Original artwork description:

I spent just 5 days in Venice in the first week of May - and would go there again tomorrow. The inspiration surrounds you wherever you go. The light is so impressive, all those colours reflecting in and off the water. The various states of the walls and the reflections in the water. This view over the gondola to the lido was sketched and photographed early one misty morning. The final painting was completed in the studio at home. I first painted an undertone of burnt sienna and once this was dry I started with the sky and background using a palette knife. The water and gondola were painted using brushes.
