Surrealistic abstract mixed media painting inspired by ancient Maya and buddhist culture. As a child I was very interesting in studies of a books about different cultures that I had in my house. The one of them was about ancient Maya culture by Russian writer who described in details various styles and objects of Mayan art. Through the years I have moved to Mexico to the Yucatan state to see it by own eyes. The everyday life on Yucatan was changed to the modern way so I have seen the crowded
streets with a lot of cars, but the Mayan people still the same look as on ancient paintings and sculptures. Of course the modern Maya culture is more kitch and it's also reflected in my artwork. The starting point for the painting was the image of Tibetan thangka painting with Meditative Buddha. As a cat lover I had an idea to change the Buddha to a cat and add some gold decorative parts and gold paint to the painting in more 'religious' way as it can be seen in Buddhist art and on Russian orthodox icons. So my Buddha cat is immersed in a deep golden meditation when the world around him is changed and comes some beings from another worlds. This painting also inspired by Mexican surrealist artists as Remedios Varo and Eleonora Carrington.
Materials: acrylic, gold paint, oils and decorative parts mounted on canvas.
Certificate of authenticity.
