Although I primarily specialise in ballpoint pen portraiture, I felt an urge to introduce colour to my practice. ‘Goatee Summer’ is my first painting in almost a decade. The acrylic portrait is made in response to the seemingly perpetual state of uncertainty we all inhabit in the 2020. Experimenting with trivial features where we may exhibit an element of control; such as playing with different hair styles, while seemingly mundane, assume greater significance in our lives.
