Original artwork description:

I am facinated by patterns and shapes in nature and love the movement and forms of fish swimming in shoals. As with a lot of my relief pieces I like to have one form (fish) in a different colour, and this is no exception:)

I created watercolour paintings of different patterns and shapes, in aquas, blues, greens, and in orange, yellow and gold. I've also used metallic watercolours over the top to create a shimmering, watery effect.

The paintings were then hand cut into different size fish shapes and the tails were curled to create a three dimensional effect.

Each fish is mounted on a small foam board plinth to enhance the three dimensional effect and this helps to cast interesting shadows depending on where the light is coming from.

The whole piece is framed in a glazed (perspex) white deep box frame.

Materials used:

Watercolour on card, foam board, and a deep box frame glazed with perspex
