Commissions.
I make commissions often when a piece has been sold and there is still a lot of interest in it. The commission I make is not exactly “one of a kind.” I do all my work using computer drawings I make as guides. Much of the sculpture’s feeling comes from how I interpret the drawing as I bend and weld the wire. If you are interested in having me make a wire wall sculpture for you, let me know. I’ll make it and publish it. If you like what I’ve done, buy the piece in the usual way from this site taking the advantages and incentives they provide. By the way, if you would like to further personalize the work (like incorporating facial features, hair style, a wedding ring, etc.) let me know. I’ll do what I can.

This is a wire sculpture/mural of girls stomping grapes to make wine. As described in Wikipedia: Grape-treading or grape-stomping is part of the method of maceration used in traditional wine-making. Rather than being crushed in a wine press or by another mechanized method, grapes are repeatedly trampled in vats by barefoot participants to release their juices and begin fermentation.

The seen-piece sculpture is made out of 12 gauge (about 3 mm thick) low carbon steel wire that I bend by hand and weld, then powder coat gloss black* with a weather resistant material. It is easily installed temporarily on finishing nails or permanently on wall anchors according to instructions I provide. The piece is signed with a thinner wire.

The sculpture is shipped in seven pieces. The size -- when installed as shown -- is 72 inches (182 mm) wide and 24 inches (61 mm) high. When shipped, the seven pieces are stacked in a cardboard box -- which is packed in a second cardboard box -- which is approximately 25 X 20 inches.

I make wire wall sculptures for public, commercial, and residential locations. The wire pieces are the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. I make and remake a digital line drawing to emphasize only the essence and feel of the subject, then, like the poet who reviews every word, I re-examine every turn and curve as I bend the wire into a sculpture. The final installation, a solid line in space in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large wall without dominating the room. My work has been purchased by collectors from all over the world.

*Other colors are available for a set-up charge of $100. Email me for details.
