The graceful gait (“allure”) of the thoroughbred seems to dissolve into the space between light and shadow, creating an ephemeral image. The use of pastel white, gray and gold tones creates a sense of movement and dynamism, as if the horse is rushing through a haze or reflected in the surface of the water. The texture of the brushstrokes adds depth and expressiveness, forcing the viewer to peer closely to discern familiar outlines in the chaotic flow of color.
