Original artwork description:

"Geologica 1.0" an 18" X 24" oil on gessoboard. 100 years ago, in college (the first time), I majored in art education and minored in geography. I guess there's always been a fascination with the earth's mysterious layers. Then, I became a medical illustrator - still awed by the mysteries of the human (and equine) body. 100 years later, it's back. What goes around comes around.

In this work, I focused on luminosity and texture. Though you can't really see it in the photos, there is a three dimensional quality to the top paint layers, especially the gold. I used a new oil based real gold pigment that has a gorgeous intensity.

Note: this painting was just finished and is still drying (9/26/22). I expect it will be completely dry in one week.
