‘Gentle Tides’ is a mixed media collage/assemblage presented in a glazed, soft wood box frame. The image is 15cm x 15cm, with the framed size at 19cm x 19cm. The box depth is 3.5cm. ‘Gentle Tides’ is part of a series of assemblages in response to coastal environments. It represents observations from an early morning walk in the warm breeze, along an untamed coastal scrubland.
‘Gentle Tides’ combines textured papers, tissue paper, torn pieces of photograph and canvas fabric. The surfaces are painted and scraped with acrylic paint, and the words ‘light winds now with treble soft’ are embedded into the image. Found objects, which include a pressed coastal wild flower, two small twigs and part of a fossil plant stem have been arranged across the collaged and painted surface.
