Original artwork description:

Inspired by the 18th Century Italian painter Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining), who became a court painter to the Emperor of China and brought the Western style of perspective to Chinese painting.

In Buddhism the male and female tigers represent the enlightened quality of fierce playfulness.  The sense of utter seriousness pervades the common idea of playfulness with dynamism.  One should be willing to take risks and be alive to the fullest extent in every situation.

Rock formations in Asian landscape painting reveals a strong influence of elements of Chinese Ming style painting with its spaciousness and natural depiction of landscape elements. The most favoured colour scheme for shading these rocks was with blue and green, the two mineral pigments derived from natural stone deposits.

This painting is mounted on a neutral mount board with a black core. The glass is museum quality non-reflective and the frame is custom made solid wood boxy style.

Materials used:

gouache on canvas
