It is important to me that the images are not unambiguous. While I tell my story, the viewer should be able to have their own interpretation. Every person has a different story and interprets images in their own way.
In my work, I also aim to address the question of how history is constructed and interpreted by attempting to create paintings that are both intellectually challenging and visually seductive. In my new paintings, I strive to create a strong blend of atmosphere and incident, solitude and omens. The new works portray situations as psychological events and describe journeys, transit, and places from an existential perspective. The sense of time and place in the works resembles that of the modern traveler, who is simultaneously isolated and stateless, often dispassionate yet vulnerable. Randomness and stasis often determine the mood. Color, form, and composition are tense, deliberate, and describe moments of open consciousness where a person finds themselves.
There is a sense of isolation, loneliness in a world of abundance and comfort, of being alone even when surrounded by people.
The images derive their fascination from the perspective construction of the composed space. The organization of space conjures up a strange mood and gives the viewer the impression that the space is assembled from different viewpoints in a cubist pattern.
In a similar way, I try to depict and construct in my work; motifs from the internet and magazines are taken out of their context. The newly constructed scenes are hints of a new story that I want to tell.
