‘I thought about what was different between when I was at school and schools today, and I remembered the games we used to play in the playground. I hope my print will make children smile and that they become involved in working out the different games, maybe asking their mum and dad about them.’ - Sir Peter Blake
School Prints revives a groundbreaking scheme set up in the 1940s to supply original, high-quality contemporary art to primary schools. Last year, six British artists – Martin Creed, Jeremy Deller, Anthea Hamilton, Helen Marten, Haroon Mirza and Rose Wylie – were invited to create limited edition prints that were gifted to participating Wakefield schools.
In 2019, Fiona Banner, Sir Peter Blake, Francis Upritchard and Richard Wentworth created a new series of limited edition prints as part of the scheme.
All profits raised by the series of limited edition prints will fund an engagement programme with the participating schools, which last year reached over 1,000 pupils in our district. The prints have kindly been donated by the artists.
