'Futility' is the statement piece within a collection of mixed media paintings about the effect of war on home life.

Fragments from copies of war records, medals and memorials - the 'fatuous' trappings and glorification of war alluded to by Wilfred Owen in his poetry - are glimpsed through layers of oil paint. Family life continues and yet these reminders of the loss and destruction of war are woven into the 'walls' and very fabric of homes across the world, residing uneasily and revealing their haunting presence among the objects of daily life.

Brush and palette knife have been used to apply the paint over the paper collage, creating a whisper of texture and resulting in an evocative yet contemporary painting.

The sides of the painting are left white so it can be hung as it is but also suitable for framing if you prefer. (The frame shown is not included in the sale). It is initialled on the front and signed on the reverse.
