This work is based on a dream of the artist's, regarding Psalm 63. In the dream, a particular restaurant was charging exorbitant prices for a glass of water and this was being held up as an example of being spiritually parched. Verse 1 of the psalm says, '...I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water'.
In contrast, in verse 5 (the juxtaposition is in the dream also), the psalmist recognises that God alone can 'fully satisfy' as if being fed on the richest of foods. Through the folds of darkness in the painting, there is a stream of light or mist. This is meant to convey the ethereal quality of this imparting of satisfaction. It is a recurring theme in the artist's work.
