About "Fulana"
This work is inspired by the artist's grandmother and her dream of being an actress. When she was young, being an actress was something despicable and those who exercised this profession were colloquially called "fulanas", a word that in Spanish is not only used to refer to someone whose name is unknown or who does not want to be named, but is also used as a derogatory adjective whose meaning is prostitute.
The image shows a young actress holding a theater mask with the inscription "Fulana". The young woman is torn between the desire to realize her dream, accept the consequences of such a decision and save her reputation.
The hand on her torso, subtly holding the red dress reminiscent of a theater curtain, speaks of the regret of such a situation.
Sometimes we give up our ambitions for fear of being rejected by the people around us and for fear of loneliness.
