I've returned back to a popular theme of mine with this new miniature canvas painting - retro sweets and brightly coloured packaging design. This one depicts the classic Fruit Salad sweet, a mainstay of many childhoods in the UK. The Fruit Salad is a wrapped raspberry and pineapple flavour chew, usually sold alongside the Black Jack sweet.
The packaging of Fruit Salad sweets has changed subtly over the years, but the bright pink and yellow colour scheme is a constant as it depicts the flavouring of raspberry and pineapple. The big black letters also remained similar, although they've become more rounded of late.
As ever with many of my works the design goes around the edge and the shape of the canvas mimics the actual shape of the object - so it's like an actual art object as well as a painting of it, a technique inspired by Claes Oldenburg.
The end result is a bold painting that would brighten up any room in your home, or would make an ideal gift for someone with a sweet tooth.
It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pens on a stretched cotton canvas. It's signed and dated on the back frame, as depicted.

8.3 inches x 5.8 inches
21 cm x 14.8 cm

PLEASE NOTE: The final image shows some of the other retro sweet pop art paintings in my shop.
I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield, and by modern day graphic designers and food packaging.
