I am motivated by colour and love to make bright colourful mixed media collages. I use many different materials including newsprint and magazine cuttings and sometimes textile fragments. I also collect and use items from my travels (near and far) such as paper napkins, menus and flyers. However I make my own acrylic monoprints and these form the biggest part of the collages I make. The process is quite time consuming in trying to find the exact colour, shape and tone of paper or other material to use. If viewers feel cheered and uplifted by my work, then I feel I have achieved my aim.
The subject for this piece is still life with flowers (one of my favourites), and it is larger than most of my collages. It was inspired by some of my own pots and jugs. Flowers feature quite often in my works, as they are so colourful, and this is no exception. I selected the papers I wanted to use (from a vast collection) and then cut them to the colour and shape needed. A small part of a printed paper napkin from a stay in a Portuguese guest house is included in this one. The papers were then assembled to form a semi abstract composition and fixed to a large piece of mountboard. It is supplied in a white mount ready for framing.
