Depicted here are vines above Beaune, Burgundy, during a hard frost in winter. The frost touches the tips and tops of the vegetation with white but many of the colours underneath remain. _x000D_ _x000D_ This is an oil painting on canvas, using the glacis method of painting very thin, although increasingly thicker, layers of colour over each other. Sometimes it is a pure yellow underneath a pure blue to create the green. It provides a richness and depth to the colours. The untrimmed shoots of the vines have been scraped into the paint._x000D_ _x000D_ The edges of the canvas are painted black to enable it to be hung without a frame.
