Frida is another one of my heroes! In a hideous bus wreck when she was 18 or thereabouts, a bus rail went through her back. She endured many surgeries but was always in pain. Despite that pain, she painted what she knew...herself! Her portraits are sometimes beautiful and often painful to look at, but always heartfelt!
I combined two of her portraits to make this image. I love the beautiful Frida with plants behind her, reminding me of Mexico City where she lived her life.
I cut the image out of linoleum, printed it onto Strathmore paper using oil-based ink, and then I colored it in with watercolor!
