This is a portrait of folk singer, composer and guitarist, Elizabeth Cotton. I wish I had the space here to tell her amazing story but you can find it, along with videos of her in numerous places on the internet. I will point out, as the painting shows, that she was left handed and played the guitar "upside down". That developed into an original style known as "cotton picking". The title of this work refers to Elizabeth's most famous composition "Freight Train".
When I die, oh bury me deep
Down at the end of old Chestnut Street
So I can hear Old Number Nine
As she comes rolling by.
FREIGHT TRAIN is a one of a kind, original work of art. It is produced using acrylic paint and India ink. I have stayed with my usual pallet of warm “earthy” colors. The locomotive background has been digitally reproduced and laminated to the 4 mil archival grade mylar and then the portrait was painted over the background. There will only be one original. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
This painting will be shipped in a tube. The artwork is very easy to mount on any type of board: plywood, masonite, foamboard, etc. I include simple mounting instructions with each piece that I sell and also I include a hanging strip and a drywall hanging device. Everything that you need to mount your painting except the board. See the “me at work” section for instructions on how to mount artwork on a board.
If you prefer, I will mount the artwork tempered masonite with a one inch border all around. It will be “ready to hang”, with a hanging strip attached to the back and a wall hanging device that is very simple to use. It will be shipped in a cardboard box. You may take it out of the box and have it hanging on your wall within five minutes. The extra charge is $70.00 for mounting and packaging plus the additional shipping costs. Message me through this site and I will calculate the total costs for mounting and shipping.
