This drawing is an exercise in photorealism, which I undertook in response to my need to refine the perception and rendering of details in reproducing the human face.
In this particular artistic exercise, I directed my focus towards capturing the skin's texture and the eyes, aiming to encapsulate what makes a face so uniquely individual. To achieve this, I experimented with a wide range of pencils, each with a different hardness, and made extensive use of a precision eraser to define the skin's luminosity. Furthermore, I introduced a new tool into my repertoire – a white gel pen – which allowed me to accentuate the highlights.
Francesca is a very beautiful and feminine woman. However, I deliberately chose a reference photo of her that highlighted not just her beauty but also her character and a touch of masculinity. As I translated this image onto paper through my work with the pencils, I emphasized the prominent nose structure and the strength of her distinctive features, aiming to bring forth a perception of her beauty that transcended the surface and revealed more substantial aspects.
Ultimately, this drawing is not merely an exercise in photorealistic technique but an exploration of the intrinsic identity within the characteristics of the human face – a journey through the perception and interpretation of the details that make each person unique.
The drawing is sold unframed. It can fit well into a standard 30x30 square frame, allowing the sheet sufficient space away from the frame, it is advisable to protect and enhance it with a museum anti-reflective glass.
