This painting was inspired by some lovely woods near my home in the Peak District. Sunlight plays through beautiful leaves creating dappled shadows and light, while the deep textures and dark tones contrast with the bright colours celebrating beautiful magenta, plum and apricot and gold. Towards the end of the day the light is clear in the distance with the trees casting dramatic shadows across the earth. There is a mood of being in a forest bathing place where there is peace and harmony.

An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. I paint some base layers with a brush and then create numerous marks by building layers with a palette knife, working with impasto techniques. The effect is of optical mixing and creates a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.
