I'm surrounded by forests, one of my favourite retreats to just be silent and present with my surroundings. The Germans have a word for it - Waldeinsamkeit - being alone, and having a oneness with the forest.
Forests can be a challenge to paint because there is so much going on, but the summer foxgloves captivated me, along with the play of light, and so I created this oil painting in an impressionist manner to try and capture something of that experience.
It is painted on canvasboard (canvas attached to board), and has been left for a year before varnishing.
Oil paints (Rembrandt, Old Holland, Winsor & Newton, Gamblin, lefranc & bourgeois)
