I was asked to paint a smaller version of this image as a commission and loved the composition so much to create this larger painting. I enjoyed creating the texture of the fur, contrasting the shorted hairs on the face with the longer warmer fur of the body.

I grew up with this story, and used to listen to the audiobook at bedtime with this rhyme starting each side of the tape cassette. I loved the tension and terror of the fox facility trapped under ground as the farmers tried to did them out, and the exhilarating escape. Found myself listening to it again painting this work.

Painting is framed professionally in a solid grey wooden frame. It is framed without glass - which allows the oil paints to breathe and stay healthy.
