The work is titled Forest Oriole. It is part of the series of works created for apes. The two images of the bird and the ape are used to depict a joyous scene in the forest. In ancient Chinese culture, the ape has always been a human-like animal highly regarded by literati. It symbolizes the hermit and the wise man who remain aloof from the world, living deep in the mountains and forests, and guarding their own piece of land.
