Fontenay-sous-Bois is an interesting mixture of residential and commercial properties, old and new, low and high rise, with green spaces in between. It lies beside Bois de Vincennes, where it borders the city of Paris. It could be somewhere to live and work without the necessity to commute. On the bright and breezy Avenue Jean Moulin stands this WtE (waste to energy) plant, which turns heat from incinerated rubbish into hot water, made available to the community at low cost. The idea was developed in France in the 1950's to provide for urban areas of the north which have high heating needs. The concept goes back to Roman days, when hot water was circulated to heat public baths and winter greenhouses.
This is an original relief print pulled from an engraving cut in rubber. The edition is 10 prints only. Please feel free to contact me to put a question or make a remark.
