This painting was inspired by and is a celebration of the capacity of the female body. It depicts the follicular stage of the menstrual cycle where several follicles in the ovary begin to mature. Ultimately, one will become the egg that can be fertilized.
I painted this during early Spring when trees were just beginning to bloom. The colors in the painting were certainly influenced by the anticipation of cherry blossoms, lilacs, hyacinths, crocuses and hydrangeas.
