Swans flying low over the sea!
This is a large mixed media painting on fabric. I have used a heavy cotton fabric as the base for this painting. To start with I dyed the part of the fabric that was going to be the sky. I used thinned acrylic paint for this. I then used all sort of different fabrics and objects to create the sea. There is wool, lace, cotton and felt fabrics in different blue colours and I used some silver coloured metal leaves from a necklace and some mother of pearl discs which glint in lamp or candle light - it looks really great. There are also some felt balls in muted colours which give a bit of depth to the sea. The swans are cut out of a heavy white linen fabric and then appliqued onto the collage. I then painted the swans using acrylics again. The collage has been backed with a heavy cotton fabric and there is a channel at the top so it can be hung from a curtain pole or similar on a wall. Alternatively it can be framed
I have embroidered my signature on the front of the collage. I am showing a photograph where it is hanging here in the dining room of our B&B so you can get a sense of the size.
