Autumn really does give an Artist beautiful colours to work with and I really wanted to capture the golden hues of the season. Also when I think about Autumn I always associate it with crisp textures and therefore I wanted to portray this on the canvas by using (impasto technique) applying thick layers of paint . By using a palette knife I sculpted the bright yellow flowers which really brings them to the forefront of the painting. I also applied layer after layer of thick paint to the leaves at the front right of the canvas to evoke in the viewer a sense of what it is like to feel those leaves under foot.
Due to the thick layers of paint it took over six months for it to dry - one of my pictures shows it drying in the studio.
