My signature interpretation of the 18th century painter Pierre Joseph Redoute. The beautiful plasticity of the blooming pea, the simple shapes of nature and the beautiful combinations draw me into awe. To capture the elegance of the simple pea and to paint it as a royal flower is the ultimate challenge for an artist.
I'm working on a series of copies by famous painters from the 17th and 19th centuries. It's an opportunity for me to go back in time to the origins of botanical painting and visit the artist in his studio. To feel how he worked, what colours he used and what techniques he used. Unfortunately, many of the old masters' watercolours have lost their colour saturation.
My copies are made with the highest quality lightfastness on 100% cotton Saunders Waterford archival quality 300g/cm watercolour paper.
