This bizarre still life was inspired by an artichoke flower. A massive stem with delightfully shaped leaves, crowned with a large "head" with characteristic fleshy petals -- absolutely perfect object for painting ever! A bouquet of yellow tulips looks wonderful color addition to the artichoke. I tried to avoid a classic composition and fragmented the space to break its unity. The objects either acquire a depth of volume, then appear flat. Shifting the focus of my vision, I seem to be looking at all objects at once, at the same time not fixing the center of the view on any particular subject. So I wanted to show the beauty of flowers as such, regardless of their location in the environment.
